Able TriFlo Inspiratory Exerciser 600–1200 cc

The Able TriFlo is a simple, effective incentive inspiratory exerciser designed to encourage slow, deep breaths that help expand the lungs, mobilise secretions and support recovery. Three easy-to-see chambers give instant visual feedback as you inhale, helping you practise controlled breathing at approximately 600–1200 cc flow rates. Compact, lightweight and easy to clean, TriFlo is widely used after surgery, during prolonged bed rest, and in respiratory recovery plans as advised by a clinician. The set includes the base unit, detachable tubing and a comfortable mouthpiece so you can begin exercises right away.

Materials & Components

  • Three-chamber indicator with colour-coded balls for progressive inspiratory goals (approx. 600–1200 cc)

  • Detachable corrugated tubing for flexible positioning

  • Ergonomic mouthpiece for a secure seal and comfortable use

  • Lightweight, medical-grade plastics (BPA-free); latex-free patient-contacting parts

  • Integrated handle/stand for stable bedside use

  • Printed scale/target window to help track progress

Reasons to Use

  • Post-operative lung expansion exercises as directed by your healthcare team

  • Support during immobility or bed rest to encourage deeper breaths

  • Respiratory recovery following illness when prescribed by a clinician

  • To practise diaphragmatic, slow inspiratory breathing with visual feedback

Reasons Not to Use

  • Acute breathing distress, chest pain, severe dizziness or blue lips—seek urgent medical care

  • Children without close adult supervision

  • If instructed not to perform deep-breathing exercises by your clinician

  • If the device is damaged, visibly contaminated, or missing parts

Advantages

  • Instant visual feedback makes technique easier to learn and repeat

  • Graduated three-ball design helps you set and reach stepwise goals

  • Lightweight and portable for home, ward or rehab use

  • Tool-free disassembly for cleaning and air-drying

  • Cost-effective compared with powered devices

Disadvantages

  • Requires motivation and correct technique for best results

  • Not a diagnostic spirometer—does not replace lung function testing

  • Plastic parts can wear over time if improperly cleaned or stored in heat

How to Use (General Guide—follow your clinician’s instructions)

  1. Sit upright or as directed. Hold the unit level.

  2. Exhale normally. Seal lips around the mouthpiece.

  3. Inhale slowly and deeply, keeping the indicator balls rising smoothly (aim within your prescribed chamber/target).

  4. At peak inspiration, hold for 2–3 seconds, then remove the mouthpiece and exhale normally.

  5. Rest and repeat the prescribed number of breaths (commonly 5–10 breaths per session, hourly while awake, or as directed).

  6. Cough gently if advised to help clear secretions. Stop if you feel light-headed; rest and resume later.

Care & Cleaning

  • Daily: detach tubing and mouthpiece; rinse with warm water; shake off excess; air-dry completely

  • Weekly or as needed: wash non-electrical parts in warm mild soapy water, rinse well, air-dry

  • Do not boil, microwave or use harsh chemicals/solvents

  • Store in a clean, dry place away from direct heat/sunlight

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What do the three balls mean?
A: They provide graduated inspiratory targets (approx. 600–1200 cc). Your clinician will set the starting level and progression.

Q: How often should I use it?
A: Usage is individualised. Many programmes suggest 5–10 slow breaths every hour while awake, but always follow your clinician’s plan.

Q: Should the balls shoot up quickly?
A: No. Aim for a slow, steady rise—this promotes deeper lung expansion. Rapid sucking can cause light-headedness and is less effective.

Q: Can children use TriFlo?
A: Yes, with adult supervision and only if a clinician recommends an inspiratory exerciser for the child.

Q: Will it help with mucus?
A: Deep, controlled breaths can assist secretion mobilisation. Your clinician may pair TriFlo with huff/cough techniques.

Q: Is it reusable?
A: Yes, for a single user. Clean regularly. Replace if cracked, discoloured, or if parts no longer fit securely.

Q: Can I lie down while using it?
A: Upright or semi-upright is best. If you must recline, follow specific positioning guidance from your healthcare professional.

Q: I feel dizzy after several breaths—what now?
A: Stop, rest, and breathe normally. Resume later with fewer repetitions or slower inhalations. If dizziness persists, seek advice.
