This formula was first recorded in 1624. This is a strong Kidney Yang tonifying formula, which is similar to Fu Gui Ba Wei Wan (Rehmannia Eight Formula). The main difference is in the omission of the herbs with a draining nature. This, together with the addition of five tonifying herbs, results in a formula with a powerful warm-tonifying action. As a purely tonifying formula, it is constructed so that the Yang tonifying ingredients are balanced with Yin and Blood nourishing ingredients.
