CareSens KetoSens Test Strips – Box of 10

CareSens KetoSens Test Strips are single-use blood ketone strips for quick, on-the-spot measurement of β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) using a compatible CareSens KetoSens meter (meter sold separately). A tiny fingerstick sample is all you need for a fast numerical reading in mmol/L, helping you monitor ketosis or check for elevated ketones during illness, low-carb dieting, fasting, or as part of a diabetes sick-day plan under professional guidance. The compact 10-strip box is ideal for travel kits, sick-day readiness, or periodic checks.

Active Components / Test Chemistry

  • Enzymatic ketone pad: uses 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (3-HBDH) with cofactor system to convert BHB and generate an electrochemical signal read by the meter.

  • Capillary fill channel: wicks a small drop of fresh capillary whole blood into the reaction zone for a stable reading.

  • Contact electrodes & mediators: transmit the reaction signal to the meter’s sensor for display in mmol/L.
For in vitro diagnostic use. Single-use only.

Reasons to Use

  • Rapid BHB results to support diabetes sick-day rules or when feeling unwell.

  • Keto/low-carb or fasting programs that require objective ketosis tracking.

  • Convenient at-home testing between clinic visits, with digital result and memory saved on the meter.

  • Small fingerstick sample and simple workflow (insert strip → apply blood → read result).

Reasons Not to Use

  • Do not use without a compatible CareSens KetoSens meter.

  • Not for diagnosis or treatment decisions without professional advice—confirm unexpected/critical results with a clinician.

  • Do not use if strips are expired, damaged, wet, or improperly stored.

  • Not designed for venous/serum or for testing glucose; use only as directed for BHB.

  • Avoid use in cases where capillary sampling is unsuitable (e.g., severe dehydration or poor circulation) unless advised by a professional.

Advantages

  • Fast, digital BHB reading in mmol/L.

  • Small sample volume; easy capillary fill.

  • On-meter memory/averages help you and your clinician spot trends.

  • Portable 10-strip box reduces waste if you test infrequently.

Disadvantages

  • Measures blood BHB only (does not measure urine ketones or acetoacetate).

  • Requires compatible meter, lancing device, and lancets (sold separately).

  • Accuracy depends on user technique, strip storage, and meter maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Which meter do these strips work with?
A: Only with the CareSens KetoSens blood ketone meter. Other meters/brands are not compatible.

Q: What do these strips measure?
A: Blood β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the predominant ketone in blood. Results display in mmol/L.

Q: How do I use a strip correctly?
A: Insert a strip into the meter, wait for the prompt, and apply a fresh fingertip capillary drop to the strip edge so the channel fills. Hold still until the result appears.

Q: Do I need to fast?
A: Not necessarily. Follow your care plan. For trend comparisons, test under similar conditions (time of day, before/after meals).

Q: What BHB level is considered high?
A: Follow thresholds from your health professional. For people with diabetes, many plans flag rising readings (for example ≥1.0–1.5 mmol/L) as requiring action per sick-day rules. Seek urgent advice if you have symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, or confusion.

Q: Are the strips auto-coding?
A: The meter recognises the strip lot automatically in most cases. Follow your meter’s manual for any coding/confirmation steps.

Q: How should I store the strips?
A: Keep strips in their original vial or foil with desiccant, tightly closed, dry, and within the temperature range on the pack. Use before the expiry date. Do not refrigerate, freeze, or leave in a hot car.

Q: How much blood is needed?
A: Only a small drop (volume varies by lot/device). Warming the hands and using the side of a fingertip can help.

Q: Can I reuse a strip?
A: No. Strips are single-use. Discard after the test.

Q: Will vitamin C or medications affect results?
A: Some substances can interfere with electrochemical assays. If a result seems inconsistent with your symptoms, repeat with a new strip and seek clinical advice.

Q: What else do I need?
A: A lancing device, sterile lancets, and a compatible meter. Consider control solution for routine quality checks if recommended in your manual.

Q: What’s the difference between blood and urine ketone tests?
A: Blood strips measure BHB (current circulating ketone). Urine strips detect acetoacetate and may lag behind blood changes.
