Loceryl Anti-Fungal Nail Paint 150 Applications (S2)

Loceryl is a medicated nail lacquer clinically formulated to treat fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) of the fingernails and toenails. The active antifungal, amorolfine 5% w/v, penetrates deeply into the nail plate and forms a protective, water-resistant film that continues to act between applications. Used regularly, it helps kill dermatophytes, yeasts and moulds, allowing a healthy nail to grow through. The kit provides up to 150 applications and includes files, cleansing swabs and applicators so you have everything needed for at-home treatment. Classified as Pharmacy Medicine (S2) in Australia.

Active Ingredients

  • Amorolfine 5% w/v (as amorolfine hydrochloride) – a broad-spectrum topical antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes.

Other formulation components (lacquer base): film-forming polymers and solvents that create a durable, water-resistant layer to keep the active in contact with the nail.

  • ammonio methacrylate copolymer
  • butyl acetate
  • ethanol
  • ethyl acetate
  • triacetin

Reasons to Use

  • Mild to moderate fungal nail infections of fingers or toes confirmed or suspected by your health professional.

  • Preference for a once- or twice-weekly topical regimen instead of daily creams.

  • Water-resistant film that continues working between applications.

  • Complete home-use kit (files, swabs, applicators) for simple, hygienic use.

Reasons Not to Use

  • Allergy to amorolfine or any component of the lacquer.

  • Broken, inflamed or infected surrounding skin—seek professional advice first.

  • Severe nail involvement (e.g., infection reaching the nail matrix/base, significant nail destruction, marked pain) or if multiple nails are affected—consult a health professional for assessment and possible alternative therapies.

  • Use in children, pregnancy or breastfeeding only on professional advice.

  • Do not use concurrently with artificial nails; avoid occlusive dressings on treated nails.

Advantages

  • Deep nail penetration with sustained antifungal action.

  • Water-resistant protective film—normal washing doesn’t wash it off.

  • Low-frequency dosing (once or twice weekly) supports adherence.

  • Complete kit with up to 150 applications for long courses.

Disadvantages

  • Treatment requires patience and consistency; nails grow slowly.

  • Visible improvement may take months (full regrowth often 6–12 months depending on nail).

  • Requires filing and cleansing before applications.

  • Not ideal for advanced infections or those involving the nail matrix—may need oral therapy or debridement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How do I use Loceryl correctly?
A: Once or twice weekly:

  1. File the affected nail surface (use the supplied file only on infected nails).

  2. Cleanse with a supplied swab.

  3. Apply a thin, even coat using the applicator—cover the entire nail surface and free edge.

  4. Allow to dry (forms a clear film). Repeat for each affected nail. Clean the applicator after each nail.

Q: How long will treatment take?
A: Continue until the infected portion has grown out completely and a healthy nail replaces it. Fingernails generally grow faster than toenails; many people treat for several months.

Q: Can I use nail polish or get a pedicure?
A: If using cosmetic polish, apply it after the medicated lacquer has dried and remove it before the next Loceryl application. Avoid artificial nails.

Q: How often should I file the nail?
A: Before the first application and then as needed to keep the surface thin so the medicine penetrates. Use only the files supplied for infected nails to avoid spread.

Q: Is the film waterproof?
A: Yes, routine handwashing and bathing will not remove the film. Reapply on your next scheduled day.

Q: What if I miss an application?
A: Apply as soon as you remember and resume your usual schedule.

Q: Can I share the kit with someone else?
A: No. Sharing may spread infection. Each user should have their own kit.

Q: Are there side effects?
A: Generally well tolerated. Possible mild, temporary nail changes (discolouration, brittleness) or skin irritation around the nail. Stop use and seek advice if severe irritation or allergic symptoms occur.

Q: When should I see a doctor or pharmacist?
A: If you’re unsure of the diagnosis, if the infection is worsening, involves the nail base, affects many nails, or if you have diabetes, circulatory problems, or a compromised immune system.

Q: How should I store the product?
A: Keep tightly closed, below the temperature stated on pack, away from flames/heat (flammable solvents). Keep out of reach of children.
