Mepiform Dressing 4cm x 30cm – 5 Pack

Mepiform is a thin, flexible self-adherent silicone sheet designed for the management and prevention of hypertrophic and keloid scars. Using gentle Safetac-style soft silicone technology, it adheres to intact skin without sticking to the fragile scar surface, helping reduce redness, flatten and soften raised scars, and relieve associated itch or discomfort. The low-profile sheet conforms to body contours for discreet, everyday wear under clothing.

Each 4cm x 30cm sheet can be cut to size, is breathable and reusable, and can be worn for many hours per day. With consistent use over weeks to months, Mepiform supports favourable scar maturation following closed surgical incisions, minor burns, C-sections, and other healed wounds.

Active Materials / Components

  • Soft silicone gel (Safetac-style) adhesive layer – gentle, atraumatic adhesion to intact skin

  • Breathable polyurethane film backing – flexible, low-friction surface for comfortable wear

  • Release liner – removed before application
Latex-free. For use on closed/epithelialised skin only.

Reasons to Use

  • Management of existing hypertrophic or keloid scars

  • Prevention of abnormal scar formation on newly healed (closed) wounds and after suture removal

  • To help reduce redness, thickness, itch and discomfort of raised scars

  • Discreet, cut-to-fit coverage for linear or irregular scars (e.g., surgical, cosmetic, C-section)

Reasons Not to Use

  • Do not apply to open, infected, or bleeding wounds

  • Avoid use if you have a known sensitivity to silicone or any component

  • Do not use with ointments or creams underneath (can impair adhesion)

  • Discontinue and seek advice if rash, maceration, or persistent irritation occurs

Advantages

  • Atraumatic: adheres to surrounding skin, not the fragile scar surface—less pain on removal

  • Reusable & cost-effective: can be washed and re-applied until adhesion diminishes

  • Thin, flexible, breathable: comfortable for long wear and easy to hide under clothing

  • Cut-to-size strip (4cm x 30cm) ideal for linear surgical scars

Disadvantages

  • Requires consistent daily wear for weeks–months for best results

  • May lose adhesion over time and need replacement

  • Possible skin sweating/maceration if not removed for daily skin checks/cleaning

  • Not suitable over open or weeping areas

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: When can I start using Mepiform?
A: Begin once the wound is fully closed/epithelialised, sutures removed, and there is no scab, drainage or infection. Ask your clinician if unsure.

Q: How long should I wear it each day?
A: Typically 12–24 hours/day. Remove at least once daily to inspect and gently cleanse the skin and the sheet, then re-apply to completely dry skin.

Q: How long until I see results?
A: Improvements are often noticed after 4–8 weeks, with optimal results over 2–6 months for newer scars. Older or thicker scars may require 6–12 months of continuous use.

Q: How do I apply it?
A: Clean and dry the area. Cut to fit with a small margin beyond the scar, remove the liner, and place the silicone side on the skin without tension. Smooth out air bubbles.

Q: Can I wash and reuse a sheet?
A: Yes. Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse, air-dry (adhesive side up), and re-apply once fully dry.

Q: Can I shower or exercise with it on?
A: Many users keep the sheet on during daily activities. If it loosens with moisture or sweat, re-apply to dry skin or replace as needed.

Q: When should I replace the sheet?
A: Replace when it becomes damaged, visibly soiled, or no longer adheres well despite cleaning.

Q: Can I use creams or sunscreen with Mepiform?
A: Do not apply creams under the sheet. Use moisturisers/sunscreen during daily breaks, allowing skin to dry completely before reapplication.

Q: Is it suitable for children or sensitive skin?
A: The soft silicone is generally well tolerated, but monitor the skin daily. Seek professional advice for paediatric use or very sensitive skin.

Q: Can I layer Mepiform under dressings or tape?
A: If additional fixation is needed, avoid occlusive products that may trap moisture. Consult your clinician for taping methods that protect the skin.
