About this product
Ego Numit 5% Cream 30g (S2) is a Schedule 2 topical anaesthetic cream containing lidocaine 2.5% and prilocaine 2.5%, used for topical anaesthesia of intact skin and genital mucosa under healthcare professional guidance. Supplied in Australia by Ego Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd. Use it in accordance with the carton instructions and your healthcare professional's advice.
About the active
Lidocaine 2.5% + Prilocaine 2.5% Cream
This cream combines two amide-type local anaesthetics — lidocaine (lignocaine) and prilocaine — at 2.5% w/w each in a eutectic mixture. Both agents reversibly block voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerve membranes, preventing nerve impulse propagation and producing temporary surface numbing of intact skin.
Indicated for topical anaesthesia of intact skin prior to needle insertion (cannulation, venepuncture, vaccination) and superficial surgical procedures, and for topical anaesthesia of genital mucosa prior to superficial surgical procedures or infiltration of local anaesthetic.
Apply a thick layer to the area to be anaesthetised and cover with an occlusive dressing for at least 60 minutes before the procedure for skin; consult the carton for genital-mucosa timing. Onset of anaesthesia is typically 60 minutes for skin and 5 to 10 minutes for mucosa.
Safety: Schedule 2 (Pharmacy Only). Do not apply to large surface areas, broken or inflamed skin, the eyes, or in infants under 12 months without medical direction. Discuss with a pharmacist before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in children, or if you take antiarrhythmic medicines.
