About Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack
These sterile, single-use insulin syringes are manufactured by Embecta — the dedicated diabetes-care company that spun off from BD on 1 April 2022. The Ultra-Fine 31 gauge × 6 mm format is the thinnest and shortest standard insulin needle currently supplied through Australia's National Diabetes Services Scheme. Embecta has confirmed (and NDSS has confirmed) that the syringes themselves are identical to the previous BD branding and that all NDSS codes and subsidies remain unchanged — the only difference is the brand on the packaging. The 1 mL barrel is calibrated specifically for U-100 strength insulin (the standard insulin strength used in Australia). The 6 mm needle length is supported by Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and ISPAD injection-technique guidelines as effective across most adult body sizes while reducing the risk of unintended intramuscular injection compared to older 8 mm or 12.7 mm needles.

Ingredients
Each syringe is a sterile, single-use medical device comprising a polypropylene 1 mL graduated barrel, a polyethylene plunger, and an Embecta Ultra-Fine 31 G × 6 mm stainless-steel needle. Sterilised by gamma radiation. Latex-free. Single use only.
Directions for use
Use only with U-100 insulin. Wash and dry hands. Inspect the syringe and ensure the packaging is intact and the expiry date has not passed. Draw up the prescribed insulin dose per your diabetes team's individualised injection plan, rotating injection sites with each dose. Inject subcutaneously at a 90° angle (or 45° in thin patients, per your diabetes team's advice). Discard the used syringe immediately into an approved sharps container.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep the syringes in their original packaging. Do not use if the individual packaging has been damaged, opened, or appears compromised. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Warnings and important information
- Single-use sterile device — never reuse a syringe or share with another person.
- Use only with U-100 insulin. Concentrated insulins (e.g. U-500) require their own dedicated matching syringes.
- Always follow your diabetes team's individualised injection plan for dose, site rotation, and angle of injection.
- Used syringes are sharps — dispose into an approved sharps container (never household rubbish or recycling).
- If you cut yourself or are accidentally needle-stuck with a used syringe, seek immediate medical advice.
- If you have a known allergy to any component, do not use; speak with your pharmacist about alternatives.
- If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional.
Suitable for
Suitable for adults and children with diabetes who have been trained on the relevant device or product by a credentialled diabetes educator. Always use in line with your individualised diabetes plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack subsidised through the NDSS?
Many diabetes products in Australia are subsidised through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). Whether Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack specifically attracts an NDSS subsidy depends on the current NDSS Product Schedule and your NDSS registration status. Check with your NDSS Access Point (usually a community pharmacy) or call the NDSS on 1800 637 700 to confirm subsidy and co-payment for your situation.
How should I store Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack?
Refer to the on-pack storage instructions. As a general principle, diabetes supplies should be stored below 25-30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Insulin and biological products may need refrigeration before opening — always check the specific product labelling for Embecta (formerly BD).
When should I replace Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack or seek medical advice?
Replace any diabetes consumable according to the manufacturer's stated wear time or use cycle, or sooner if the product appears damaged, soiled, or has been compromised. Seek immediate diabetes team advice if blood glucose readings are unexpectedly out of range, if you feel unwell, or if blood ketones rise above 1.5 mmol/L (NDSS sick-day threshold for Type 1 diabetes).
How do I safely dispose of used diabetes supplies?
Used sharps (lancets, syringes, pen needles, used insulin pump cannulas) must be placed in an approved sharps container — never in household rubbish or recycling. Many community pharmacies accept full sharps containers for safe disposal. Your local NDSS Access Point can advise on disposal services in your state or territory.
Where can I get more information about managing my diabetes?
Diabetes Australia and the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) publish evidence-based diabetes self-management resources, sick-day action plans, and product information for the Australian context. Speak with your endocrinologist, GP, diabetes educator, or accredited dietitian for individualised advice.
What pack size does Embecta Ultra-Fine Insulin Syringes 1mL 31G x 6mm 100 Pack come in?
This product is supplied as a 100 Pack pack. Pack size may vary by manufacturer batch — always refer to the on-pack quantity statement to confirm.
