About Microlax Enema 5mL x 50
Microlax Enema is a micro-enema for short-term relief of constipation in adults and children, and for bowel preparation prior to rectal examination (proctoscopy, rectoscopy or X-ray of the lower bowel). The combination of three active ingredients works locally in the rectum to draw water into hardened stool, softening it and prompting a gentle, controlled bowel movement — typically within 30 minutes of administration. Because the active ingredients are not absorbed through the bowel wall, Microlax does not cause the systemic effects associated with oral laxatives. The 50-pack provides single-use tubes ideal for residential aged care, supported-living, and family households where multiple users or repeat episodes may occur.

Ingredients
Each Microlax 5mL enema contains: sodium citrate dihydrate 450 mg , sodium lauryl sulfoacetate 45 mg , sorbitol 3.125 g as active ingredients. Other ingredients: glycerol, sorbic acid, purified water to 5mL.
Directions for use
Adults and children over 3 years: Twist off the cap. Squeeze a small drop of solution onto the tip to ease insertion. Insert the full length of the nozzle into the rectum (seated or squatting). Gently squeeze the entire 5mL contents into the rectum. Keeping the tube compressed, withdraw the nozzle. Tighten the buttocks for at least 5 minutes to allow softening — do not pass a bowel motion immediately. A controlled bowel movement usually follows within 30 minutes. Infants and children under 3 years: Insert only half the length of the nozzle (marker on tube). Squeeze the contents in, then gently press the child's legs together against the changing pad to keep the solution in place. Single-use only — dispose of the tube after each use.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep in the original packaging. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Warnings and important information
- Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
- For rectal use only. Single use — do not reuse a tube.
- Do not use if you have an undiagnosed change in bowel habit, abdominal pain of unknown cause, bleeding from the bowel, or suspected bowel obstruction — seek medical advice first.
- Prolonged use of any laxative is undesirable. Microlax is intended for short-term, occasional relief. If constipation persists or recurs, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about underlying causes (diet, hydration, fibre, medications).
- If symptoms persist beyond a few days, or if you experience rectal bleeding or severe abdominal pain after use, stop and seek medical advice.
