About the active
Lidocaine 10% (Metered Spray)
Lidocaine (also spelt lignocaine) is an amide-type local anaesthetic first introduced in the late 1940s. It works by reversibly blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerve membranes, preventing nerve impulse propagation and so producing a temporary, localised reduction in sensation.
In this 10% metered pump spray, each actuation delivers 10 mg of lidocaine in approximately 100 microlitres, designed for direct application to the mucous membranes of the mouth, pharynx, upper respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, and the urethra.
Indicated for topical anaesthesia of the mucous membranes of the mouth, pharynx, upper gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts prior to instrumentation, intubation and minor surgical procedures; and for topical anaesthesia of the urethra prior to catheterisation in adults. Use is restricted to administration by, or under the direction of, a registered healthcare practitioner.
Safety: Schedule 2 (Pharmacy Only). Do not exceed the maximum dose per procedure stated in the Product Information. Discuss with a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in children, or if you take antiarrhythmic medicines. Stop use and seek advice if any allergic-type reaction occurs.
