About the active
Potassium Citrate
Potassium citrate is the tripotassium salt of citric acid, a pharmaceutical-grade compound widely used as a urinary alkaliniser. It dissociates in the urine to produce bicarbonate, which raises urinary pH and reduces the burning discomfort associated with mild urinary tract infections.
Indicated for the symptomatic relief of pain and discomfort associated with mild urinary tract infections in adults. It does not treat the underlying infection — antibiotic treatment may still be required where bacterial infection is confirmed.
Adults take 10 mL diluted in water, three times daily after meals and at bedtime, for up to 48 hours. If symptoms persist beyond 48 hours, do not exceed the dose — see a pharmacist or doctor for assessment.
Safety: discuss with a pharmacist before use if you have kidney disease, heart disease, are on a potassium-restricted diet, or are taking potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, NSAIDs or digoxin. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice. Maintain a high fluid intake during the course.
